January 6, 2016, marks the 75th anniversary of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms speech, in which he identified four essential human freedoms that would become part of the foundation of the post-war international human rights system. To celebrate the occasion, the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights is publishing a series of short essays exploring the Four Freedoms written by past UICHR visiting scholars.
